Helping the local community improve health fitness & well-being

WHAT IS THE HEALTHY HEARTS & ACTIVE HEALTH PROGRAMME?
The aim of the programme is to improve the health,
fitness and well-being of
the local population in order to
decrease the risk of
common illnesses such as heart disease, obesity,
diabetes & mental health
problems.
The programme provides its
participants with the skills,
opportunities, education and
support that is required to help them make long-term lifestyle changes.

WHO IS THE PROGRAMME FOR?
Basically anyone that could benefit from regular physical activity and/or nutritional and lifestyle advice are suitable for the programme
regardless of age. Particularly;
- Those that have tried many diets but are still overweight.
- Those who want to decrease their risk of heart disease and other serious illness
- Those who suffer from
depression or anxiety
- Those with muscular-skeletal problems such as back pain.
We run a variety of activities within the community such as walking groups, yoga, pilates, salsa, chair aerobics for the elderly and less mobile, basic sessions for
beginners and kick combat for the more advanced.

HOW LONG DOES THE
PROGRAMME LAST FOR AND WHAT IS INVOLVED?
The programme lasts for 12 weeks as this is the approximate time it takes for lifestyle changes to become habit and therefore part of your day to day life.
It starts with a one to one
consultation with an active health worker.
You will work together to devise an action plan to help you achieve your goals.
Throughout the 12 weeks you are given the opportunity to attend the healthy hearts group which
provides advice on nutrition, food labelling and involves practical healthy cooking sessions.
You will be encouraged to attend exercise sessions of your choice and you will have the benefit of ongoing support and advice from your active health worker.
